How to Fix your Internet Connection



Hi Everyone! This week I am sharing some Tips & Hints on how to fix your Internet Connection when it's down. When your internet connection is down, normally what will you do? Don't worry! Help is here today!

Checking your Connection

  1. Press Start, type "cmd" (omit the quotation mark "") and hit Enter.


2. This Black Box will appear

3. Type "ipconfig" (omit the quotation mark "") and Hit Enter!
     4.   If your IPv4 Address is 169.254.x.x (x is random number) means you don't have any connection
    • This is a known as APIPA 
Restart your Wireless Router
  1. Turn off your Wireless Router 
  2. Wait for 10seconds 
  3. Turn on your Wireless Router again
  4. Check your connection again using "ipconfig"
  5. You should be able to see your IPv4 Address to be in either one of this range:

    • 10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255
    • 172.16.0.0 to 172.31.255.255
    • 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255
Checking for Proxy on your Browser

  • For some of you using computers that are being configured by company, sometime will find it an issue to connect to the internet at home.
    • This is because company is using Proxy Server to connect user in the company to the internet. 
    • This will cause conflict with the internet connect at home even you are directly connected to the internet using cable from your modem.
  1. To check, press Start, type "Internet Properties"(omit the quotation mark "") and hit Enter.

2. This Windows will appear and click on the "Connections" Tab.
3. Click on "LAN setting"

4. Check if Proxy is used, If yes, Uncheck when you are using at home and Check  when you are in the office.
  • If the proxy server is uncheck in the office, you won't be able to access the internet. If you are using computers that are configure with proxy, it will be more troublesome.

Slow computer Start up and Warm up

Hey Everyone! This week I am going to give some Tips & Hints on how to SPEED up your computer! Alright, ever have the experience that you are waiting in front of the computer staring at the "WELCOME" for 5 minutes and when you got in, you have to wait for the spinning cursor to stop spinning?
Don't Worry! Helps is here today!

  • System Configuration
    • This may be an issue when you have too much application and software starting up when your computer is start up, therefore turning off some of those unnecessary one will help improve the system performance.
    1.  Click on start, type "msconfig" (omit the quotation mark "") and hit Enter! 
2. You will see this Windows!

3. Click on Startup tab and you will see this
                4.   Uncheck application like:
      • Instant Messaging (MSN, Skype, etc)
      • Music Player (iTune, Windows Media Player,etc)
      • Adobe (All adobe software is not require for startup)
      • Video Player (VLC player, Real player, etc)
                5. Click apply, OK and YES torestart your Computer
  • System Restore
    • If your computer does not perform well enough as compare to few week back, you are able to restore the system to remove configuration that you have made this recently that could have cause the poor performance
    1. Click start, type "System Restore" (omit the quotation mark "") amd hit Enter!
    2. Click Next

3. From the list, select a Restore point that is before the date and time you experiencing problems
               4. Click Next and Finish, it will restart your computer and restore to the date and time you selected
    • Organized the Desktop
      • When you login your computer, the computer will take time to load application and if you have gadgets it will take up even longer time for the computer to warm up. Moreover, with a desktop with full page of files and document around it will take even longer time to warm up.
      • Therefore I would recommend Fences

    The Blue Screen of Death (BSOD)

    Hi Guys! I bet you have seen this screen at least once in your life! This is known as the Blue Screen of Death . For those who didn't do backup of their data will be cursing, "Oh Great!, there goes all my data!"

    Don't worry! Today I will give you some Tips on getting rid of this Blue Screen of Death and Hints to retrieve your data after Blue Screen of Death happen.

    There is few ways to try troubleshooting yourself and save your data


    Safe Mode
      1. Power on the computer and keep pressing F8 and you will see this screen and select Safe Mode
      2. Login your computer normally and backup all your data to a external hard disk or thumb-drive. (Priority)
      3. Scan your computer with your anti-virus.
      4. Restart your computer and it will be back to normal mode again.

    Removing Software that are installed before Blue Screen Happen
        1. Press the (Windows Button) and type Programs and Features
        2. Click on "Installed On" and it will sort all the application that you installed from latest to oldest. 
        3. One by one click on those application or games that are installed 1 to 2 days before the Blue Screen of Death happen and right click uninstall/remove
        4. Restart your Computer

    Using Software like CCleaner to fix Registry.
        1. Download latest version of CCleaner (highly recommended)
        2. Install and Run CCleaner
        3. Click on "Registry"
        4. Click Scan for Issues (There will be a list of Problem found)
        5. Click Fix selected issues and select "NO" to backup registry
        6. Click on Fix All Selected Issues.
        7.  Restart your Computer.
